The Buffalo Bills’ latest move might be a hint that one of its key players could be making his return to game action sooner rather than later.
The Bills announced the signing of safety Jared Mayden on Wednesday. Mayden spent Weeks 6-8 on Buffalo’s practice squad. In order to sign Mayden, Buffalo plucked the third-year defensive back off the New York Jets’ practice squad.
In a corresponding move, the Bills released veteran cornerback Xavier Rhodes. This move could indicate the team is preparing for the return of rookie cornerback Christian Benford.
Benford made his return to Bills practice last Thursday after missing the last four games due to an oblique injury. Upon his return from Injured Reserve, his 21-day practice window begins, meaning Benford must be activated by January 19th at the absolute latest.
However, if the Bills feel as if he’s ready to play, Benford can make his return as soon as Sunday’s contest against the New England Patriots.
