There are rumors circulating that the Buffalo Bills could be going after All-Pro running back Dalvin Cook.
Cook, who was released from the Minnesota Vikings, is linked to the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills among other teams. However, a recent team development could have the Bills out of the Cook sweepstakes.
While seeing a backfield of Cook and Cook would be fun, there are bigger team needs than running back and it's actually one of the strongest units for the team. In fact, Bills potential 3rd string running back is in discussion to get even more opportunities next year.
Nyheim Hines was more of a special teams specialist, with some limited opportunities coming in the passing game. Not too many traditional carries for the veteran back last season. With Buffalo adding Damien Harris, Latavius Murray, and some longshot hopefuls like Jordan Mims, there are plenty of talented players but maybe not enough carries to go around.
When speaking on Hines and his impact coming into next season, Bills running backs coach Kelly Skipper is looking at a much bigger role for Hines next season.
“He’s definitely explosive, but you’ll see him a little more experienced in the run game… We showed him off in the pass game mostly. Now, he can function in anything we do."
With James Cook leading the way and then carries being split, potentially, between Hines and Harris, there just isn't room for a Dalvin Cook addition. Hines, getting praise for his explosiveness and discussions on getting him more involved in the offense should put to rest any potential Dalvin Cook trade rumors.
Hines has already etched his place in Bills history with the opening kickoff return for a touchdown against the Patriots. Does he have any more magic in him for next season?
Bills: James Cook opens up on Dalvin Cook trade rumors, expectations for next season
The Buffalo Bills have been linked to All-Pro RB Dalvin Cook. His brother, James, shut down that notion after letting the world know he’s going to be RB1 next season.
