The Buffalo Bills reportedly made the decision to have S Damar Hamlin be a healthy scratch ahead of the season-opener against the New York Jets.

Our very own Mauricio Rodriguez wrote about this earlier, and how it's a subtle reminder of how cold of a business the NFL can be. That, and why the Bills made the decision to sit Hamlin ahead of the contest.

The Bills have a deep safety room led by Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, with former second-round draft pick Tayor Rapp as the No. 3. That and Cam Lewis' versatility – who was once seen as a potential roster cut – in the defensive backfield allows Buffalo to list Hamlin inactive.

However, without playing a single snap or seeing the field, Hamlin was the MVP of Week 1. He didn't need to lace up his cleats, make a tackle, or do anything on the football field to be deserving of that honor.

Instead, it's what he's doing to better our communities across the country that have us handing him the MVP award despite the team not playing a single snap, yet. During the slate of games on CBS, Hamlin took part in some CPR education in a clip that has now gone viral.

The NFL Today team joined the Red Cross for some CPR training with a special message from Hamlin himself.

"Great job NFL Today team for taking the time to be trained today for CPR. This means so much to me as I've started my own CPR tour. A mission to travel the world city to city getting people CPR certified and raising AED awareness."

Hamlin continued with a sense of urgency, speaking from the heart, "The training you are receiving today can save a person's life. Please, please, please encourage others in your life to get the same training you are getting today. Good luck with your season, and Go Bills"

We'll have to wait maybe one more week to see Hamlin on the field for the first time in a regular season game since suffering a reported cardiac arrest and nearly dying on the field.

It's fitting that it could very well be in front of the Bills Mafia at home. For now, we're just thankful Hamlin is doing his part to make his voice heard for something much bigger than football.
