Mysteriously, a few months ago, Bills owner Kim Pegula was taken to the hospital. Rightfully so, the family kept all updates private, as they should.
Crucial update
After months, Kim’s daughter and tennis professional Jessie Pegula wrote about her mother and the family’s journey over these past few months. The Buffalo Bills' social media account shared the story for the world to see.
Jessie discussed the severity of her mother's injury, suffering from a cardiac arrest, and what is next for their family on the long road to recovery.
An in-depth look at the traumatic injury
Jessie was emotional and thoughtful in her article with the Players' Tribune, allowing fans an inside look at one of the most personal moments in her family’s entire life.
"I am thankful she is still with us when other families may not have been so lucky. That she even had a chance at recovery when the first week in the hospital seemed so dim."
Eerily, this update is similar to that of the Damar Hamlin injury earlier this season. Specifically, Jessie discussed what happened on the night of the incident.
“My sister gave her CPR until the ambulance arrived. She saved her life. Even though she doesn’t like to take credit for this terrible situation, she absolutely saved her life, followed by the critical job performed by the paramedics who arrived and were able to restore a heartbeat.”
The long road to recovery
While Kim is on the road to recovery, Jessie opened up about what’s next for her mother and their family. Specifically, she discussed exactly what Kim is battling right now. Jessie highlighted that her mother is dealing with “significant expressive aphasia and significant memory issues. She can read, write, and understand pretty well, but she has trouble finding the words”
Jessie ended the article with a direct message to Buffalo and all of those who support her family. “Thank you to the Buffalo community for your patience. I know you have wanted answers and it took us a while to get there but it finally felt like it was time. Thank you to everyone who has respected privacy and shown me and my family tremendous support throughout this ongoing journey.”
Pegula strong
Buffalo is known as a city of good neighbors. Without a moment of hesitation, the city gathers around those in need and lifts them up. Now, it’s time for more of the same. The city will undoubtedly come together for a woman that has helped revitalize one of the most important aspects of Buffalo.
