The Buffalo Bills have plenty of tough decisions on impending free agents in the 2023 offseason. General manager Brandon Beane made comments regarding one Bills veteran that raised some eyebrows across Bills Mafia.
Running back Devin Singletary is one of Buffalo’s most curious cases this offseason. While he has shown some development in four seasons with the Bills, the team might be ready to move in a different direction.
“Really improved in short-yardage. We know he can make guys miss. His hands improved,” Beane noted.
“We’ll have to see from a business standpoint how that will work out for us.”
The growth James Cook showed in the backfield might have been enough for Buffalo to feel comfortable letting Singletary test the waters in free agency. Per Spotrac, Singletary’s market value projects to hover around the $5-million mark annually. For a running back that has yet to eclipse 900 rushing yards in a single season, the Bills might be better off investing that money elsewhere.
Buffalo doesn't have the luxury of a salary cap cushion for the 2023 season. Spotrac currently has Buffalo $20 million over the cap limit, meaning the team will have to make budget cuts in certain areas.
With Cook’s emergence and Singletary’s value in the free agency market, it’s likely that that he has played his final game with the Bills.
