First and foremost, the sky isn’t falling, and the world isn’t on fire regarding Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Take a deep breath, everything will be fine.

When the reigning MVP and franchise quarterback shows up on the injury report, it can be a little uneasy. For all intents and purposes, the upcoming Week 18 matchup against the New York Jets is meaningless. If anything, Allen was most likely going to come in and play one snap to keep his active streak alive, and then call it a day. Maybe, at most, one to two drives.

After reaggravating his foot injury in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Allen popped up on the injury report Wednesday as he was unable to practice. Well, he was out again on Thursday. Previously, Ian Rapaoport reported that things were looking good for Allen.

“All indications are he is fine and actually in a better place than he was last week,” Rapaport said. “We just don’t know right now whether or not the Bills are going to rest guys with not a lot to play for, just talking about seeding.”

Josh Allen injury update

Now, Adam Schefter has quickly changed what we’ve known about the injury.

“For a second straight day, Bills QB Josh Allen did not practice today due to his foot injury, and it is now setting up for him to rest during Buffalo’s regular-season finale against the Jets,” Schefter wrote.

Rest is good, and the Buffalo Bills will do well with just playing him for one snap in the finale.

Observations

The only new additions to the long list of players that were on the injury report were defensive end AJ Epenesa, cornerback Tre’Davious White, running back James Cook, and offensive lineman Tylan Grable. Epenesa and White are both battling an illness, while Cook took some vet rest.

Cook has been a superstar this season and has broken out in a big way. Leading the league for rushing yards is no small feat, and it’ll be interesting to see just how much he plays on Sunday to potentially earn the crown.

“That’s definitely on my mind,” McDermott said when asked about Cook’s position to win the rushing title.

We’ll be monitoring how the injury report shakes out and how many starters are truly going to play on Sunday. It’s a massive list with more than a handful of key players, and from the looks of it, the Bills should just throw everyone in some bubble wrap until the postseason.

At the end of the day, this is exactly the kind of week Buffalo can afford, somewhat, to be cautious. If resting bodies now means a healthier roster in January, Bills Mafia will gladly trade a quiet Week 18 for a loud postseason run.
