Bills OC Joe Brady on the run game: 'It wasn't broken so why fix it?'

It's fair to say that even if you expected the Buffalo Bills to defeat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15, no one expected them to do it in the manner in which they did.
Josh Allen only threw the ball 15 times for 94 yards, yet Buffalo led 31-3 late in the fourth quarter before a garbage-time touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb made it 31-10.
Of the Bills 65 plays, 49 of them were rush attempts. James Cook led the way for Buffalo with 179 yards on 25 carries, and Ty Johnson added 54 yards and averaged six yards per carry. In total, the Bills racked up 266 yards on the ground- something that offensive coordinator Joe Brady said wasn't the original gameplan.
"I'm probably a broken record when I say this, but there's a way to win every game," Brady said. "We think we have an idea going into the game about how we think this is how they might play it or this is how we think our guys are going to respond to something… I don't think anybody envisioned being able to have that much success… It wasn't broken, so why try and fix it?"
This ability to adjust earned Brady the audible praise of Josh Allen, and added that the run game is something they'll need to continue this success.
"Not many teams, I think, can change your gameplan like that midway through a game and just attack the run," Allen said. "It's something that was good to see from our guys and you know, it was good to see Joe just continuing to [call] it. And it's something we're gonna need down the stretch."
The Bills will have a great opportunity to continue their success on the ground this week against the Los Angeles Chargers, whose defense ranks 24th in success rate against the run.
A win would put Buffalo at 9-6, continuing to put them in a favorable position as they inch closer to their Week 18 game with the Miami Dolphins- a game that can still potentially be for the AFC East title.
