The Buffalo Bills pulled out the win against the New York Jets in Week 2. While Josh Allen didn’t put the team on his back in the fourth quarter, he didn’t need to. In Week 1, it was a thrilling comeback effort; in Week 2, the team leaned on its defense and running game to get the victory.

After the game, Allen spoke to the media about a scary incident in which he was gushing blood on the field early in the contest. He was out for a few plays in which Mitch Trubisky completed a big gain before Allen returned.

“We can breathe, so it’s good,” Allen said. “I pulled it when I probably should’ve handed it off. I tried to throw it, and I saw him push, decided to tuck it. I don’t know what hit me, it was a knee, it was a hand, it was somebody. The helmet just kind of came down right on the bridge of my nose and started leaking. It’s tough because you should go down there to give Mitch a chance to catch his bearings to be able to come out there. Obviously, gushing blood, I just wanted to try to get off the field to stop it. For him to come off the bench like that, no warmup, no nothing, to be ready.”

That’s when Allen gave credit to his backup in Trubisky.

“I think that’s a true embodiment of the character and the man that he is,” Allen said. “Coming in there and making a play on third down for us, that was a huge drive, that was a huge play, so shoutout Mitch.”

Josh Allen praises the defense

The Jets couldn’t get anything going as it was a dominant effort from the Bills’ defense. After the game, Allen was asked about the defense’s performance and the sharp contrast from what was seen in Week 1 against the Ravens. The franchise quarterback put everything into perspective.

“I think they took it personal, they understand what type of defense they can be,” Allen said. “They went out there and played extremely well. That’s the standard we’re looking for from them. They understand that, but very proud of how those guys attacked the entire week of practice, stepped up at the occasion. Now, on a short week, we gotta do the same thing again on Thursday.”

Joey Bosa was a one-man wrecking crew in the contest and forced a fumble on Justin Fields. The defense completely shut down the Jets and allowed just two completions in the first half. In the entire contest, Buffalo limited the Jets to 154 yards of total offense, which was the fewest allowed in a road game by the team since 1990.

Allen talks about the mindset of the 2025 Buffalo Bills

Allen was asked, once again, about the defense. Specifically, if the unit was playing with a chip on its shoulder, despite how good Allen knows the defense can be. After a rocky first week, the defense was firing on all cylinders the entire matchup against the Jets, something Allen took note of.

“The mindset that we have is never get too high, never got too low,” Allen said. “Try to find the middle and understand that it’s never as bad as you think, but it’s never as good as you think. There are always things to improve on, and each and every week, that’s all we’re trying to do throughout practice. Short week, we gotta wash this one. Typically, on Thursday night games, we don’t even really watch this film, we let our coaches do that. We gotta turn our focus to our next opponent, and that’s Miami Thursday night.

It was a team victory, and the team avoided disaster as Allen returned to the contest and did enough to help lead the team to victory.

After the win, Allen made it clear the team’s focus shifts to the Miami Dolphins. With a few key players out due to injury, they could be getting healthy at the right time.

The franchise quarterback ended his press conference with a heck of a quote when asked about his reliability in coming back into the contest.

“I take a lot of pride in it,” Allen said. “Being able to withstand some of those things. Never want to make a living out of it, but I take it with a lot of pride.”
