The Buffalo Bills might not have to look far for a possible solution to one of its biggest offseason questions.
The inside linebacker position will be a hot-button topic over the next couple of months. Tremaine Edmunds is set to cash in during free agency whether that is with Buffalo, or someone else, remains to be seen.
But even if the Bills re-sign Edmunds, depth is very much a concern in the middle of the defense.
One potential fit comes straight out of Buffalo’s backyard. Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network reveal that Bills met with Syracuse’s standout linebacker, Mikel Jones, during the NFLPA Bowl Week.
Jones tackled everything in sight during his four years in Syracuse. He tallied 299 tackles during his collegiate career, including 22 tackles for loss. Jones was a two-time captain with the Orange and was tabbed an All-ACC performer twice.
His strengths are rooted in run defense, but his four interceptions at Syracuse speak to his versatility.
He projects as late-round pick, but would satisfy a potential need as the Bills will likely part ways with linebackers Tyrel Dodson and A.J. Klein.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane has plenty of work to do this offseason, but the team could opt to take a closer look at Jones as the draft draws nearer.
