The Buffalo Bills (6-1) will look to take advantage of a massive mismatch when the team travels to MetLife Stadium to do battle with the New York Jets (5-3) on Sunday.
The Bills pride themselves on putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. By signing Von Miller in the offseason, Buffalo placed an extra emphasis on its pass rush.
So far, the Bills’ investment has paid off. The team ranks ninth in the NFL with 21 sacks, but have played one less game than every team ahead of them besides the Philadelphia Eagles.
That’s bad news for Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. The second-year signal caller has experienced his fair share of growing pains since he was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
However, Wilson’s biggest downfall is his lack of efficiency when facing pressure.
Wilson is just 9/47 when pressured this season, throwing for a measly 141 yards. You read that right, he’s completing just 19 percent of his passes when under pressure. His 3.0 yards per attempt rank last in the NFL as does his 13.3% turnover worthy play rate.
The Bills are one of the few teams in the NFL that can get pressure on quarterbacks without blitzing. However, Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier isn’t going to shy away from bringing extra pass rushers if the situation happens to call for it.
Wilson could be in for a long afternoon on Sunday. Expect Buffalo's shorthanded secondary to have plenty of opportunities to create turnovers as Wilson will is expected to spend a majority of the day under duress.
