The Buffalo Bills had some major concerns coming into this season in 2 key areas: Offensive line and middle linebacker.
For the offensive line, Josh Allen played far too much hero ball last season and while the team will live and die by their franchise quarterback, there's no doubt that he needed to be protected better coming into this season.
Adversely, for the middle linebacker position, the team was put in a difficult position after star LB Tremaine Edmunds took his talents to Chicago, leaving Buffalo without a signal caller on defense.
It seems like Buffalo found their answer in LB Terrel Bernard to take over in the wake of Edmunds' departure. Bernard has shined in a small sample size and may just be the linebacker for the future.
As for the offensive line, it appears the Bills may have found a diamond in the rough that could be exactly what they need to protect Allen long-term. While there is still a question mark with Spencer Brown, injury concerns, and if he can play at a high level in the league, newly acquired O'Cyrus Torrence is shaping up to be exactly what the team needs.
After the contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, we were able to get a better look at Torrence and what he was able to accomplish on the football field, and he's receiving huge praise for his role in the victory. Specifically, PFF came out with some stats that show he was the real deal in the victory.
The rookie, who was fighting Ryan Bates in camp for the starting position, finished his Week 2 performance with 42 pass block snaps and allowed only one pressure. The rookie looked poised on the line throughout the contest, a welcoming sign for a fanbase used to seeing their franchise QB run around like a chicken with his head cut off.
Allen has to love that Torrence is finding his own in the NFL because that ultimately makes his job a little easier. Getting protection up front will allow Allen more time to stay in the pocket and dissect a defense, rather than scrambling and hurdling cornerbacks to try and gain a few extra yards.
Now, the Las Vegas Raiders don't have a terrifying defensive line as Chandler Jones was out and Torrence didn't have the responsibility of trying to stop the superstar that is Maxx Crosby. Nevertheless, we're more than pleased with Torrence's stats.
Brandon Beane, once again, may have found a diamond in the rough. If Torrence can continue on his trajectory this season, Beane will look like a genius once again. Remember when people thought the front office didn't play their rookies? Insert O'Cyrus Torrence (among many others).
Josh Allen being adequately protected makes us very, very happy.
