The Buffalo Bills just earned a hard-fought victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, but they still have some work to do to earn a spot in the playoffs.
While they will compete against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15, which will certainly prove a challenge, their matchup for Week 16 might have lost a crucial piece.
Set to take on the Chargers, Los Angeles head coach Brandon Staley announced that Justin Herbert has a right index fracture. And when asked if the quarterback will be back this season, Staley simple said, "To be determined.”
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also provided his opinion on the subject.
"Given where we are in the season, a fracture could mean his season is over," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Herbert left Sunday's game against Denver late in the second quarter after Broncos defensive lineman Zach Allen pulled Herbert to the ground right.
He was originally ruled as questionable to return, but was later ruled out.
According to David J. Chao (aka ProFootballDoc), Herbert's injury to the index finger could lead to accuracy issues even if he is able to play. And it doesn't help that the Chargers have a short week, having a Thursday Night matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Because of that, even if Herbert is able to play against the Bills in two weeks, the fracture will surely not heal fully. And that means his accuracy could be off.
The Bills are currently on the bubble, advancing to 7-6 on the season with the win over the Chiefs. They still have to face the Cowboys, Chargers, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins in the regular season, so each and every win they can get is crucial.
And with this latest injury news, a victory in Week 16 just became that much easier.
