Buffalo Bills perfectly navigate another major injury scare in AFC divisional round clash with Denver Broncos
The Buffalo Bills had another key injury scare during the AFC divisional round vs. the Denver Broncos.
The Buffalo Bills just cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Denver Broncos.
On the opening play of the game, Bills LB Dorian Williams suffered a scary neck injury that saw him transported to a local hospital. The injury left the team severely undermanned at linebacker. Now, they’ve lost a key starter on the offensive line, at least briefly.
Bills starting C Connor McGovern was being evaluated for a head injury in the second quarter
With just over 13 minutes remaining in the second quarter, Buffalo ran the ball with James Cook. He was met by Broncos LB Alex Singleton after just two yards with a thump that forced the ball free. In the scrum, the Bills’ starting center, Connor McGovern, was injured. He was assisted off the field by the training staff and ushered into the blue training tent. He quickly emerged from the tent, briefly spoke to Josh Allen, and was taken to the locker room by the training staff.
Shortly after that, the Bills’ public relations department released the following injury update on McGovern.
“Injury Update: C Connor McGovern is being evaluated for a head injury.”
Bills OL Alec Anderson played center for a series after Connor McGovern suffers head injury
Alec Anderson was the first man off the bench to replace McGovern on the next series, which resulted in a game-tying field goal for Buffalo. McGovern is a salty veteran, having started 49 games in three years with the Bills. Anderson has started just six career games for Buffalo, totaling 480 offensive snaps over the past two seasons since signing as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2022.
Anderson has been in the building for a while now, but he’s not the most experienced. It was hardly an ideal situation for Buffalo in a win-or-go-home playoff game. Thankfully, they’ve got a veteran quarterback in Josh Allen, who can do a whole lot at the line of scrimmage to help offset the fact that McGovern wasn’t on the field for that particular series.
Bills starting C Connor McGovern cleared to return to the game
With around two minutes to go in the second quarter, the Bills’ public relations staff sent out another update on McGovern.
“Injury Update: McGovern has been cleared to return.”
When Buffalo gets the ball next, ahead of halftime or with the second half kickoff, you can expect McGovern to return to the field.
