Buffalo Bills Pass Rusher Leonard Floyd

Tell us if you've heard this before, Brandon Beane made another splash signing.

The talented Bills GM is known throughout the Bills Mafia as a "wizard" and the most recent decision was a perfect example of that.

It was announced that the Buffalo Bills were bringing in a veteran pass rusher, Super Bowl champion, and former Von Miller teammate Leonard Floyd on a one-year deal. The Bills add a dominant piece to their defensive line who could help bridge the gap until Miller's return.

ESPN published an article highlighting the best free agents available. Nearly half the list was compromised of pass rushers which showcases just how valuable they are to teams. Surprisingly, Hopkins hadn't made the list. It's clear that while Hopkins has plenty of value and is an elite pass-catcher, teams are paying a premium for players to get after the quarterback which makes Beane's decision even more impressive.

Floyd being brought in wasn't the only decision Beane and the front office made of late as the team decided to extend DT Ed Oliver to a four-year deal. The front office, over the past few seasons, has prioritized improving the trenches.

Buffalo was able to avoid the mistake of paying big money for DeAndre Hopkins. While this latest move doesn't mean they won't sign the All-Pro receiver, the team had more pressing needs that were taken care of with the Floyd signing. Buffalo got ahead of what could be an ultra-competitive market for players like Justin Houston, Yannick Ngakoue, Melvin Ingram, and Frank Clark to snag Floyd.

While getting Allen a next-level weapon is important, the offense is still scary with the current slew of players on the roster. If you had to add either Hopkins or a pass-rusher to help while Miller is out indefinitely, most fans would lean toward helping fix a team need, especially when you look at the comparative cost.

Floyd had other offers elsewhere for more money but wanted to come to Buffalo in hopes of winning a championship. By adding Floyd, they get a dominant pass rusher who can help until Miller can return to the field. While Miller has teased fans by announcing he would return by week one, that doesn't seem possible, especially given the front office's slow roll approach to bringing players back.
