Weirdly, one of the storylines to watch during the Buffalo Bills' preseason has been the punter position. Matt Araiza, the sixth-round rookie punter, is technically fighting Matt Haack for the punter/holder hob in Buffalo.
Araiza's feats in college earned him the nickname "Punt God" and it didn't take long for him to introduce himself to NFL fans formally. It literally took him one attempt to drop our jaws wearing a Bills uniform.
How did he do it? Oh, you know, nothing crazy. Just a casual 82-yard punt!
Man, it's not easy for a punter to have you jumping around the living room but I'm sure he caused that for every Buffalo Bills fan watching the preseason opener. I mean, Twitter was losing it after his punt.
Araiza was doubted as a prospect because his punting style is challenging to adjust to the pros, but it seems he's finding a way.
Perhaps it doesn't guarantee him a roster spot but the rookie is trending in the right direction. The Bills need to make the first round of cuts on Monday and the punter position could see one of the first roster casualties.
