We are very, very excited about the Buffalo Bills deciding to go out and make a trade at the deadline. Brandon Beane has once again made a splash, bringing in Packers CB Rasul Douglas in exchange for a third-round pick. Buffalo would get a fifth-round pick as well in the trade.
Now that the trade has been official, there's been a further indication of just how important Douglas can be for the locker room. Specifically, former teammate Keisean Nixon opened up on what kind of leader Douglas was in the locker room. The emotional interview dove into what it meant to Nixon that the two wouldn't be teammates moving forward.
Nixon began, "I don't really have any reaction. I'm at a loss for words. I understand it's a business, but I'm still sick to my stomach, honestly."
The former teammate talked about what kind of locker room figure Douglas was, "Somebody who stabilized the locker room. A big part of who we was preaching and approaching as a team, and now he's gone."
It's already been a whirlwind for Douglas as he flew in late to Buffalo. Bills general manager Brandon Beane even joked about the incident in today's press conference, joking that, "Not a lot of direct flights from Green Bay to Buffalo."
The veteran cornerback even made national headlines with his injury designation for his first practice in Buffalo, which he was able to make it to.
He was all smiles during practice, hugging and greeting his new teammates. While it's just one day and a couple of hugs, this move just feels right. Much like when the Patriots were dominating, it felt like you could just feel a player was going to fit in well there, the Patriot way. Similarly, Buffalo is like that, too. Vocal locker room leaders who are disciplined in their craft and provide just as much off the field as on it.
Without stepping on the field, Douglas is ascending into a fan-favorite. A dominant veteran who immediately fills a team need is exactly what the team needed at this point of the season.
While there are still question marks at the position in what's been unfolding with Kaiir Elam, paired with how long it'll take for Douglas to get accustomed to the defense, not everything is going to be perfect off the rip.
For now, Buffalo doesn't need perfect. They need better, and that's what Douglas does for this team both on and off the field, he makes them better.
Bills got much more than just a talented cornerback in Rasul Douglas trade
The Buffalo Bills made a splash in the closing minutes of the NFL trade deadline by bringing in Rasul Douglas. They were able to secure much more than just a veteran CB.
