Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Eli Ankou is returning to practice after being activated from the PUP list on Friday, the team announced.

Consider that perfect timing from Ankou that is in desperate need of some playing time. In the recent unofficial depth chart published by the Bills, Ankou is listed as a third-string defensive tackle.

There are four players that are virtual locks to make the 53-man roster once cutdown day arrives ahead of Ankou:

  1. Ed Oliver
  2. Daquan Jones
  3. Jordan Phillips
  4. Tim Settle

Considering the Bills are likely to carry at least five ends, Ankou's job might come down to whether or not the coaching staff wants to go long at the defensive line. But it's an uphill battle for the sixth-year veteran.

In five games playing for Buffalo last year, Ankou recorded a sack, one tackle for loss, and nine tackles.

He's a roster-bubble player to watch this preseason. We'll see if he changes the storyline and breaks into the 53.
