Bills: A simple family reunion could help attack current problem
Excluding Von Miller, the Buffalo Bills' defensive ends that led the charge on last week's win over the Minnesota Vikings were Carlos '"Boogie" Basham, Shaq Lawson, and Mike Love (practice squad call-up). Zero quarterback pressures in 66 combined pass rush snaps per PFF.
Not ideal. Moving forward, there are three things the Bills can hope for to get to the quarterback.
- Hope for quick returns from injured players (Rousseau and Epenesa are expected back on Thursday).
- Blitz. Blitz. Blitz.
- Sign outside players.
The Bills will likely consider all three. If they go to #3 though, reuniting two family members could be the way to go.
The Bills should put a claim in for a current player's cousin
On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys waived NFL veteran Tarell Basham. As you might deduce, he is Boogie Basham's cousin.
The defensive end is a former third-round pick (2017) that's been a solid rotational player in the league but spent most of the season on IR in Dallas.
However, the Cowboys aren't getting rid of him because he's been bad. They're just loaded up front. Like, really loaded. Their depth guys are second-round pick Sam Williams and longtime starter Dante Fowler Jr. With one of the best pass rushes in the league, Basham simply lost a spot on the roster.
For the Bills, he could be an instant contributor (he's been healthy for a few weeks now). They wouldn't need him to start or anything like that but he would be a valuable rotational piece.
From 2019 to 2021, Tarell Basham recorded nine sacks, four forced fumbles, seven pass deflections, and 11 tackles for loss, per Pro Football Reference.
