Buffalo didn't have a fourth-round pick as they traded that to move up two spots to take Utah TE Dalton Kincaid with the 25th overall pick. So, recouping those picks was huge for the organization.
In the fifth round after moving down, Buffalo found a way to fill yet another team need at wide receiver. The Bills selected Florida WR Justin Shorter. Shorter had 577 yards and two touchdowns in 2022. The Florida WR started his career at Penn State before transferring.
Getting another weapon for Josh Allen will never be a bad thing. Now, the crowded wide receiver room gets another. Buffalo has spent two of their limited draft picks to get Josh Allen weapons on offense.
Below is The Athletic's Dane Brugler's scouting report:
Overall, Shorter is a one-speed runner with predictable route running, but his height/weight/speed mix is uncommon, and his ball-winning potential will tantalize NFL teams. His fit as a back-end-of-the-roster receiver makes him worth the risk
With two more picks, it'll be interesting to see if Buffalo stays put or makes a trade to move up. So far, Brandon Beane has received mostly positive praise for his decisions throughout the 2023 NFL Draft.
