The Buffalo Bills have a vacancy on their roster after the news broke that veteran RB Nyheim Hines would be out for the season. His season tragically ended before it began after a reported jet ski incident.
Now, Buffalo is looking to find someone to take over the responsibilities not only in the backfield but in the KR/PR game. Hines, as the Bills Mafia knows all too well, was responsible for one of the best kick returns in Bills' history.
Brandon Beane and the front office wasted no time after the Hines news broke. Buffalo brought in several running backs for a tryout as camp is set to begin in the coming days. Aaron Wilson helped break the news on a slew of RBs that the front office had brought in for a workout.
Former Tennessee Titans third-round pick Darrynton Evans had a workout scheduled with the Bills. Evans, unfortunately, battled multiple injuries that had sidelined him throughout his tenure with the Titans. He had finished, in two seasons, with 16 carries for 61 yards and four receptions for 38 yards. However, the biggest selling point is that Evans has a history of returning kicks. In limited playing time, Evans had 10 kickoff returns for 223 yards.
Beane also brought in former New Orleans Saints RB Abram Smith. Smith dominated in the XFL, racking up 791 rushing yards and seven touchdowns with the XFL defenders. Smith was a game-changer in the XFL and could quickly become a camp darling if he were to make the team. Smith led the entire league in yards while playing for the Defenders and showed his pass-catching prowess with 13 catches for 91 yards.
Lastly, the front office brought in Green Bay Packers' former 7th-round pick Kylin Hill. Hill, who also struggled with injuries, saw 10 games with the Packers that resulted in 11 attempts for 31 yards while adding one reception for five yards in the air. Hill reportedly had some attitude problems so his trajectory to make the team doesn't look as good as either Smith or Evans.
The organization is wasting no time in the wake of Nyheim Hines' devastating knee injury. Whether it's looking to bring someone in, or promoting from within, a key position just got a whole lot more interesting.
