The NFL has turned Saturdays into one of the biggest fears of players around the league as it's when news about fines come through without exception.
This time around, among those monetarily punished before Week 17 are two starters of the Buffalo Bills: CB Taron Johnson and RT Spencer Brown.
According to Ryan O'Halloran from The Buffalo News, Johnson was fined $21,855 for his tackle on Los Angeles Chargers TE Gerald Everett, which led to an unnecessary roughness penalty.
In the play in question, which you can see below, Johnson seemed to lead with his helmet even if it was far from blatant or egregious.
As for right tackle Spencer Brown, he was fined just over $7 thousand for a tripping penalty, which also falls under the unnecessary roughness category.
If it it really feels like the NFL has ramped up its fining practices in 2023, for better or worse, it's because they have. Joe Pompliano, author of the HuddleUp newsletter, noted fines had increased a whopping 161% this year versus last year.
Ultimately, all the Bills' Johnson and Brown can really do is shake it off. In Week 17, they'll need to if they're to take care of business against the New England Patriots at home.
