The Buffalo Bills announced during the offseason that they’d be bringing back their beautiful red helmets for the season finale, while also teasing a new uniform as part of Nike’s “Rivalries” series for their Week 5 contest against the New England Patriots. A winter-themed jersey has finally been unveiled, with a special touch made with Bills Mafia and the people of Buffalo in mind.

The cold front jerseys are surely related to the sometimes unbearable snowy conditions in Buffalo each year. A nice little bonus is the change to the Buffalo on the sleeves of the jersey. A frozen-over and diamond-like Buffalo wasn’t something we were expecting, but it was a nice little touch. With the white jerseys and silver lettering, the logo on the side is impossible to ignore. Additionally, in the collar, the words “Bills Mafia” appear, which is yet another nice little addition by giving love to the fanbase that adores their team and the city.

Nike Rivalries explained

Nike and the National Football League collaborated to create the new uniforms inspired by the communities in which the teams play. The first set of teams rolling out a new jersey is from the AFC East and the NFC West, which includes the Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks. The NFL shared the initiative and explained the thought process behind the new uniforms.

“Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform with designs rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival. The designs have been brought to life by pulling inspiration from the history of each market and the aspects of the community that only that team’s city embodies.”

Immediately after release, the Buffalo Bills offered an inside look at the creation of the jerseys. Showing love for the city and the fanbase while explaining some of the finer details of the new look.

“The ‘Cold Front’ uniform is more than a look — it’s the city’s DNA stitched into fabric. When you think Buffalo Bills Football, you think ice in the air, grit in the soul, and a city that thrives in the cold. It’s not just iconic. It’s Buffalo.”

For anyone interested in purchasing the new gear, they’ll have to wait until Sept. 10 when it becomes available to the public.

Dion Dawkins is the shnowman

One person who is sure to love the new winter-themed jersey is Buffalo offensive lineman and Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins. His nickname, since well before joining the organization, has been the “shnowman,” dating back to his prep school days. Instead of snowman, it’s shnowman, don’t question Dawkins. Regardless of where it began, it really stuck in Buffalo.

“I was in prep school and I said it one time and the guys kept questioning it. [They would say] ‘What’s shnow?’ I was like, if they’re questioning it, then everyone else will question it and then means it will draw a little bit more attention to myself as a big guy. So, I just kept it going.”

Some mixed reports claim that Dawkins also got the nickname for just being a great kid and helping neighbors by shoveling snow for them during his childhood in New Jersey. Regardless of how he got the nickname, the shnowman is going to be getting a shnow jersey.

New England is going to be coming to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park to take on the Bills, with both teams donning their new jerseys. Before Josh Allen arrived, it was difficult to call the matchup between the two teams a rivalry. With Tom Brady previously running the division, it was nearly 20 years of misery for the Bills Mafia. Now, with Buffalo having a franchise quarterback and MVP of their own, and Brady long gone, the Bills have been dominant against the AFC East. Heading into 2025, the team is looking to claim their sixth straight division title. While the ultimate goal is always the Super Bowl, you gotta get through the division first.

Here’s hoping a fancy new jersey isn’t the only thing we’re celebrating after the game on Oct. 5.
