I've always said that when tuning into an L.A. Rams game, it's difficult to not fix your eyes on #99 every single snap. Aaron Donald is truly a historic player in the NFL and one of the best in the game right now. Week in and week out, the biggest storyline for Rams' opponents is "how the heck do we stop this human wrecking machine?"
The Buffalo Bills included.
In a recent article for Democrat & Chronicle, Bills columnist Sal Maiorana revealed guard Ryan Bates even approached Von Miller for advice regarding how to deal with Donald.
Miller's response was a stark one, but a much-needed one ahead of Thursday Night's kickoff game.
“There is no weakness. I can’t sit here and say, ‘Well, if you do this …’ It’s Aaron Donald, he’s the greatest football player that I’ve ever played with. And he’s one of the greatest football players that ever played this game and that’s counting all the greats and all the football gods that have come through here. Aaron Donald is one of those.”
Miller is a realist. In recent interviews, the Bills' prize free agent signing has shared that message consistently. Throughout the offseason, he's been more than just a pass rusher for Buffalo. He's helped out in front office endeavors, but most importantly, he's shared what he believes is the right mentality to win Super Bowls. That includes knowing that you'll lose battles and games because that's the way the NFL works.
Regarding Donald, he knows the Rams' star defensive tackle will make plays on Thursday Night. He also knows it's up to the Bills to win in spite of that.
"I’d be setting them up for failure if I tell them like, ‘If you just do this, you know you’ll be all right.’ He’s good at everything. These guys are great, we got Josh Allen, we got great players, too, but Aaron Donald’s gonna make plays."
Miller is helping the Bills set the right mentality. That includes not backing down from great ones like Donald. If/when he beats Buffalo's offensive line, the mindset must be centered around one of football's oldest clichés. It's about the next play.
