General manager Brandon Beane came under fire, with many fans believing he should have been out the door, not former head coach Sean McDermott. Instead, the team moved on from McDermott after nine seasons and decided to rock with Joe Brady as the new head coach.

Weeks later, Beane spoke with Ty Dunne from Go Long about the decision to hire Brady as the new head coach and what it might mean for Beane if the move doesn’t work out. It was one of the most explosive comments made by the general manager during his tenure with the Bills. He ignored the outside noise and made the decision that he thought was best for the organization.

Brandon Beane opens up on the hiring of Joe Brady

“(Expletive) the outside. It’s about the right selection for this team,” Beane said. “And if we win, they’ll love it. It’s the same thing I said when I took Josh Allen. If I’m wrong, the moving company will be at my house. So, I understand. And I’m not going to have regret of choosing someone to appease the outside if I thought it should have been something different. If I’m wrong, I’ll (expletive) take my job and (expletive) go home.”

For Beane, it all came down to his gut. It was Joe Brady or no one for Beane, and that was made clear early in the interview process. The team went about their business, acting as if they didn’t know any of the candidates, to give everyone a fair shake.

“I don’t want to be wrong, see him go somewhere else, when my gut told me it was Joe Brady,” Beane said .”I’m never going to do that [ . . . ] I would love for everyone to cheer every move, but it’s not about winning the press conference. It’s about winning games over there.”

It’s clear that Buffalo got the guy it wanted, but Beane fully understands it’s his job on the line if things don’t work out. Beane pointed across the street to the new stadium, as Dunne reported, before dropping another incredible line about what the future means for the organization.

It’s all about bringing the first-ever Lombardi Trophy to Western New York

“If we do that, everyone will cheer,” Beane said. “If I selected who they want me to select or the outside noise, whatever those ratings were, and we don’t win? Guess who’s going to (expletive) hear about it? Me. So if I’m going to get yelled at, I’m going to get yelled at for choosing the guy that I believe can do this.”

That mindset sums up exactly where the Bills are at entering the Joe Brady era.

There are no half-measures, no hedging, and no concerns for optics. Beane tied his future to Brady because he believes that’s the fastest, clearest path to finally delivering what the franchise has chased for decades.

If it works, Buffalo reaches football immortality. If it doesn’t, Beane already knows the price, and he’s more than willing to pay it.
