Bills’ Brandon Beane locks in core weapon for future while quietly kicking off cap-saving move ahead of crucial offseason
Brandon Beane left nothing to the imagination.
General manager Brandon Beane was speaking on One Bills Live ahead of his media appearance during the NFL Combine and gave an inside look at what the team is planning to do with tight end Dalton Kincaid. Kincaid is one of the best tight ends in the league, but the bill is coming due.
He also opened up and let slip that the team has restructured the contract of offensive lineman Spencer Brown.
Beane was asked about Kincaid’s fifth-year option and when the team is going to move on that. Fortunately for Bills Mafia, he left nothing to the imagination on what the team is planning to do.
“Dalton, he’s one of those ones [ . . . ] at the right time, we’ll knock that out at some point this spring,” Beane said. “The production that our offense has with him on the field, I think I figured up this season, it was 7.1 points more the games he started versus the five that he missed. Sometimes that’s not always in production, I don’t remember the production in the games, you know, every game. Just him being out there, the asset that he brings, the dimension that the defense has to defend.”
Dalton Kincaid is here to stay
Kincaid was a one-man wrecking crew when he was on the field. A nagging knee injury kept him sidelined for a handful of games, and his absence could be felt. When Allen and Kincaid were on the field together, Allen had the highest passer rating when targeting a tight end in the league.
According to Sumer Sports AI, Kincaid’s abilities when he’s on the field and the success the offense has are beyond elite. Buffalo’s winning percentage doubles, the EPA per play increases significantly, the yards per play increase, the overall success rate improves, the passing completion percentage increases, and the third-down conversion rate improves.
He just needs to stay healthy, and it’s something he knows. And it’s something the general manager himself brought up when speaking about the next steps for Kincaid.
“Our number one thing with Dalton is to see if we can get him in a healthier fashion this year so that we don’t have to A, miss games, and B, limit how much he’s playing,” Beane said. “He’s been very intentional about that as well. That’ll be kind of the plan. Yes, at some point, we will definitely pick up his fifth year.”
Beane lets slip one of the biggest offseason moves so far
Beane also opened up on one of the biggest offseason questions: how do they get some cap wiggle room? Buffalo is sitting near the bottom of the league in terms of cap space, but let slip that they’ve already begun taking steps to get cap compliant.
“We know we have to get under the cap, we know we have X number of days to do that,” Beane said. “And there’s different ways to do that. Restructure, we’ve actually restructured Spencer Brown, so we’ll get some money back from Spencer.”
Beane was asked to elaborate as the news was new to all of us.
“That’s done, I think we sent it in yesterday [Monday],” Beane said. “So we’ll save a little bit there.”
That’s the blueprint right there. Buffalo isn’t blinking when it comes to Kincaid. The fifth-year option is getting picked up. The organization believes in the impact. The numbers back it up, the quarterback play elevates, and the offense hums at a completely different level. Now, it’s about availability.
If Kincaid can stay on the field, the production suggests he isn’t just a nice piece of the offense; he’s a driving force behind it. With Allen operating at his best when No. 86 is healthy, this becomes less about a future decision and more about protecting one of the most important connections on the roster.
Meanwhile, the cap maneuvering has already started. Spencer Browns’ restructure is the first domino, and it won’t be the last. Beane has a plan; he always does. Keep the core intact, create flexibility, stay aggressive.
The message from Indianapolis was clear: Kincaid isn’t going anywhere, and neither is this front office’s belief that this offense can still reach another level in 2026.
