Brandon Beane might land a season-altering addition in a young weapon with monster potential on the Saints
The Buffalo Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane should pick up the phone and call the New Orleans Saints.
It’s the bye week, which makes potential trade ideas extra fun.
Buffalo has some glaring issues that need to be fixed, and most would be totally right in arguing that the team needs help at cornerback or safety, but that’s not as much fun. Instead, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane should pick up the phone and see what it takes to bring in New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave.
The Saints could be open to hearing offers for the talented pass catcher, and Buffalo should absolutely be looking into what it would take to acquire him. Adam Schefter had floated Olave as a possible trade candidate, and Buffalo makes sense. If the Bills can’t get Olave, at least productive conversations with Mickey Loomis could lead to a deal for Rashid Shaheed.
Some other trade candidates at wide receiver that Schefter highlighted were Shaheed, Las Vegas Raiders’ Jakobi Meyers, New York Jets’ Allen Lazard, Tennessee Titans’ Tyler Lockett, and fellow Saint Brandin Cooks.
For defensive backs, if you’re into that sort of thing, Schefter named Riq Woolen and Roger McCreary for cornerback options, with Kyle Dugger and Tony Adams as safety options.
Bills Mafia wants a change on offense
The fanbase is clamoring for a difference-maker on the offensive side of the football to pair with quarterback Josh Allen. The “everybody eats” mantra that the team deploys on offense just isn’t cutting it for the fanbase, especially after the loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Olave would fit right in with the Bills’ offense and provide Allen yet another reliable weapon. Olave has a pair of 1,000-yard receiving seasons to his name and has 39 catches for 342 yards and a touchdown through six games this season.
If Olave weren’t available, Shaheed would be another option the Bills could check on. Olave and Shaheed are due for contract extensions at the end of the season, which could make Buffalo the beneficiary if the Saints want to ship them away ahead of the big paydays. For Shaheed, he’ll be a free agent after the season.
Perhaps the Saints would be interested in a second and fifth-round pick and Curtis Samuel for Olave. Or perhaps the team could package a trade involving Samuel and a sixth-round pick for Shaheed.
If the Bills traded for Olave at the deadline, the team would absorb around $1.6 million in salary this year, plus a guaranteed $15.4 million fifth-year option in 2026.
To be fair, the Saints have no reason to ship out Olave, and they might hang up the phone on Beane with anything other than a first-round pick. For Shaheed, that trade makes more sense and is fair on both sides, with it being even for all parties.
Shaheeds’ salary for the Bills would be around $2 million, and he’s slated to become a free agent after the 2025 season.
Bills Mafia has made its message clear in its hopes of Allen getting another weapon. Whether it’s Olave or Shaheed, the clock is ticking for Beane to make a move ahead of the deadline.
