The Buffalo Bills need to get some more money in the banana stand, and quickly. Buffalo is sitting at the bottom of the league in terms of available cap space, according to Over The Cap, sitting at negative $13.3 million in available cap space.

With moves yet to be made with the NFL free agency period being opened on Monday, general manager Brandon Beane got to work clearing up some much-needed cap space. It’s been reported that kicker Tyler Bass and the Bills have agreed to a revised contract.

The Bills guarantee $1 million in return for a $1.5 million pay cut; the chance to earn back the $1 million is available via incentives. It appears that Buffalo is sticking with Bass as their kicker.

Bass signed a two-year, $6.75 million renegotiated contract with the Bills that frees up $1.92 million in cap space.

Tyler Bass is coming off a sports hernia injury

Bass didn’t play for the Bills at all during the 2025 season, with Buffalo bringing in a host of kickers to make do while Bass recovered from his injury.

Kicker Matt Prater instantly won over the hearts of Bills Mafia, kicking the game-winning field goal in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens in a thrilling comeback victory.

Still, it’s Bass’s job in Buffalo to lose, especially after the latest news.

The talented kicker has shattered record books in Buffalo before his injury, though his time in Buffalo hasn’t always been the greatest. A few missed extra points here, and there have the fan base worried if he’s the full-time answer at kicker. Nevertheless, Buffalo believes in the guy they drafted and is excited about the future at the position.

That’s not to say competition can’t be brought in once again if Bass falters, but for now, it’s Bass time in Buffalo. General manager Brandon Beane spoke about Bass’ return at the NFL Combine, giving fans an inside look at his recovery process while dealing with a sports hernia.

“For timelines, I would say Tyler (Bass) is the closest [to returning] from sports hernia. The other guys will be into the spring, but they’re there in Buffalo,” Beane said. “It’s been fun to see them. And I know they’ve been up to meet some of the new coaches.”

Once Week 1 rolls around, Bass should be more than ready to compete.
