Bills’ Brandon Beane has his work cut out for him after ESPN highlights one major concern with the team heading into 2026
Still plenty of work to do this offseason for the Bills.
The Buffalo Bills have had a relatively quiet offseason. Yes, they have made some big moves, but ultimately, there are still several roster holes that need to be accounted for heading into the 2026 season. They still have the draft and a few remaining free agents to choose from.
ESPN released an article talking about the biggest additions, the biggest losses, and the biggest remaining roster holes for all 32 teams after a busy first few weeks of NFL free agency. For Buffalo, it is clear what area they need to improve on: inside linebacker.
“Inside linebacker. The shift in defensive philosophy has already resulted in significant change, both with players let go and new ones brought in thus far. The top players at the position currently are Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams. GM Brandon Beane did express that this draft has a good linebacker class, which could be how the team addresses the position.” – Alaina Getzenberg
Fortunately, as Getzenberg highlighted, the draft is chock full of linebackers that would immediately come in and help raise the entire room. General manager Brandon Beane has his work cut out for him to not only fill this roster hole, but also others that are apparent on the roster.
Buffalo gets praised for their free agency decisions
Perhaps the biggest additions this offseason have been those of wide receiver DJ Moore and pass rusher Bradley Chubb. While Buffalo had been quiet, it doesn’t mean they didn’t make a few splashes along the way. Moore immediately comes in as a No. 1 wide receiver and gives quarterback Josh Allen another important weapon in the offense. Bills Mafia should be excited about what Moore brings.
Chubb comes in as a much-needed player who can get after the quarterback. After an eight-and-a-half sack season in 2025, Chubb believes his best football is still in front of him and is more than ready for the challenge.
Did Buffalo hit its free agency goals? Well, sort of. As we shared, there are still plenty of roster holes at linebacker, defensive line, and receiver depth, but Buffalo is off to a good start.
“Some of them. Buffalo added most of its top positions of need by re-signing, trading and signing at center, receiver, pass rusher and safety to lock in starters. But there are lingering questions at linebacker, defensive line and receiver depth, while a solid portion of that will come in the draft, there’s still work to be done.”
The Bills aren’t far off, but they’re not complete either. With the draft looming, Beane’s next moves could be the difference between a strong contender and a team that falls just short once again.
