Before the NFL Scouting Combine, there was a certain faction of Bills Mafia clamoring for a wide receiver at 30th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, and if the board works out that, way I certainly understand it.
The Bills need an outside threat with great speed that can take the top of the defense, ideally with route running abilities and strong hands. For months, that has sounded exactly like the description of Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden. Unfortunately for Bills fans, Golden may have tested himself out of range for when the Bills find themselves on the clock.
Golden didn't enter the week talking a big game. He simply went about his business, and he crushed it. Golden posted the fastest 40-yard dash time of any wide receiver this year, running it in an official 4.29 seconds. That is fast fast.
At 5-foot-11, 181 lbs, Golden isn't the biggest wide receiver. But he more than makes up for it was great route running, crisp release packages off the line of scrimmage, and an ability to generate a ton of separation for himself. With his Combine performance, the conversation is no longer about whether or not he's worth going in the first round, it's about whether or not he should be the first wide receiver to get selected.
The NFL loves speed. Throwing down a 4.29 second 40 time assuredly raised plenty of eyebrows around the NFL.
