For the AFC Divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, it looks like the Bills might be slated to catch a bit of a break. Although the ground attacks is crucial for Baltimore, Zay Flowers is certainly their top wide receiver. Logging three straight DNPs in practices this week, Flower's availability for Sunday is very much in doubt.
When asked about it on Friday, Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh said that he thinks Flowers still has a chance to play, but it seems like a long shot at this point. He hasn't been officially ruled out, but he carries a "doubtful" designation on the official Ravens injury report.
On the season, Flowers leads the team in targets (116), receptions (74), and receiving yards (1,054). He's the primary outside threat for a team that emphasizes what they can do from jumbo personnel packages, but his presence on the perimeter allows the team to run smoothly.
If Flowers isn't able to go for this game, it takes away not only their leading receiver, but a primary weapon that the secondary has to account for on every play.
In his second season, Flowers took steps forward in plenty of notable categories. His yards after the catch per reception jumped from 5.2 to 6.3, his yards per route run increased from 1.72 to 2.35, and his average depth of target climbed from 9.1 to 10.7.
Flowers is drawing more targets, further down the field, and has been better after the catch than he was last year as a rookie.
If Flowers isn't able to go, it takes their best outside threat off the field, allowing the defense to give more attention to the duo of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Flowers not being on the field would be a massive help to Buffalo's defense.
