The Buffalo Bills find themselves in an envious position. Heading into the offseason, the Bills' biggest need happens to be arguably the best and deepest position groups in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It's a great year to need defensive lineman, and with Brandon Beane and the Bills having three picks in the first two rounds, they're in a prime position to find some crucial difference-makers.
"The overall strength of this year's draft class really lies in the defensive line group," ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid said on SportsCenter. "I have 10 first round grades on defensive linemen in this year's draft class, it is absolutely loaded. You have guys like Abdul Carter of Penn State, Mason Graham of Michigan, Michael Williams of Georgia. And I believe this is the most loaded group, defensive line wise, since 2019. If you remember, in that group, it included names like Nick Bosa, Dexter Lawrence, Quinnen Williams, Jeffrey Simmons, Christian Wilkins. The list goes on and on to the players that we saw in that draft class. So four to five years from now, when it's time for these guys to sign a second contract, it would not surprise me if they're mentioned in the same breath as that special 2019 class."
That is incredibly high praise, and sets up a couple of thoughts for Bills fans. First, it's a great year to need help all across the defensive line, which is exciting. Players like Mykel Williams and Walter Nolen might need to be traded up to land, but guys like Derrick Harmon and Kenneth Grant could be in range late in the first round and provide tremendous upside on the interior, with plenty of players likely to be available in the second round as well. There are a ton of different directions Beane can go. But, secondly, if somehow the Bills come out of this year's draft cycle without finding a difference maker along the front, it has the potential to look like a massive miss.
Brandon Beane has been great at finding late gems, but he has struggled ever since trading up for Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft to find special players with Buffalo's first round picks. Beane needs to hit this year's draft out of the park, and there will be plenty of opportunities to do so.
