Brandon Beane has officially (well, not yet) made his first high-profile free agency pickup of the offseason, agreeing to terms with former Los Angeles Chargers veteran pass rusher Joey Bosa on a one-year, $12.6 million deal.
Pass rush was one of the biggest remaining needs for the Buffalo Bills to address, but after extending Greg Rousseau for four years, adding a veteran with a ton of ability and production on a one-year deal is a great bet to make.
The biggest issue for Bosa has been health. Since 2021, Bosa has only been healthy enough to start 18 total games — that's not the type of availability that you're looking from in your top pass rusher.
His talent has always been on display, though. In 93 career starts, Bosa has recorded 72.0 sacks. When he's on the field, he's a prototypical, large, dominant edge rusher that's capable of bullying opposing offensive linemen. The Bills will just have to hope that Bosa can stay on the field.
Adding Bosa into the fold now gives the Bills Rousseau and Bosa as their likely top two pass rushers, with A.J. Epenesa getting next up.
With Bosa only on a one-year contract and set to be 30-years-old this July, the signing shouldn't change anything about the draft strategy of Beane in the 2025 NFL Draft. Going after top defensive players in the draft should still be a viable plan of attack, but Bosa's signing, assuming he's healthy, does take some of the pressure off any potential draft pick needing to be an immediate contributor on day one.
Bosa was a great get. Here's hoping that he's available to make a difference when it matters most.
Buffalo Bills sign familiar face for third stint, but it might mean bad news for one of Josh Allen’s favorite weapons
Brandon Beane just can’t quit this guy.
