A day after the Las Vegas Raiders made Maxx Crosby the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, taking one of the potential trade targets off the board for the Buffalo Bills, a new suitor has emerged — and this time, it's one that's actually available via trade.
Cincinnati Bengals' Trey Hendrickson, one of the league's premier pass rushers, has requested a trade from the Bengals, and they're willing to grant it. This is the move that Brandon Beane needs to make, and it's one where both sides could be willing to make it happen.
Hendrickson is coming off back-to-back seasons with 17.5 sacks, with the mark leading the NFL in sacks last season. Since 2020, only three players have over 70.0 sacks — T.J. Watt with 73.5, Myles Garrett with 72.0, and Hendrickson with 70.5. Rounding out the top-5 is Nick Bosa at 53.5, and Micah Parsons at 52.5 (despite Parsons being drafted in 2021).
Hendrickson is in elite company as a pass rusher. For teams interested in inquiring him, they would be taking on $15.8 million for 2025, the last year of his contract. After that, Hendrickson is reportedly seeking $32-33 million per year, which was the number before Crosby got his new contract. It's a hefty number that Beane would have to be willing to take on for a 30-year old pass rusher.
Whether or not Beane decides that he's interested, the fact that the Bills are a top contender in the AFC doesn't help their case. It's possible the Bengals will simply draw the line at not trading him within the conference, or if they do, they might set the price higher.
If the Bills are able to get this done, though, it would be an immediate difference-maker on the defensive line, filling the biggest need that the Bills have this offseason. Hendrickson should be the top target for Beane in the immediate future. Go get it done.
