The Buffalo Bills just cannot stay healthy.
Recently, I wrote about Sean McDermott announcing that OT Tommy Doyle was lost for the season. Doyle was looking to play a crucial depth role on a team in desperate need of bodies.
Now, it's been reported that another key piece of depth will be lost for the season. What's more, his story was one that easily made the Bills Mafia fall in love with him.
Matt Parrino reported that DE Shane Ray was put on season-ending IR. His incredible story focused on getting another shot in the NFL. He reportedly suffered a hamstring injury in the Bills' second preseason game against the Steelers and will be out for the entire season.
Ray, throughout his NFL career, has been active for 49 games in which he started 15 of them. He's managed two forced fumbles, 14 sacks, and 94 combined tackles with 33 QB hits in his career.
The former Super Bowl champ with the Broncos had a promising start to his NFL career as a pass rusher. In his second season, Ray had eight sacks and quarterback hits before suffering a wrist injury that led to multiple surgeries which wound up derailing his career.
Ray opened up about his battle with mental illness, dealing with stress and nervous breakdowns throughout his career. Ray wouldn't be stopped, though, as he spent the 2019 season trying out with 10 different teams but unfortunately didn't land anywhere.
Then, the following year, in 2020, he had no team workouts and wound up spending a few seasons with the Toronto Argonauts before ultimately having a good performance at the rookie minicamp and signing with the Buffalo Bills.
Von Miller's former teammate, once again, has an uphill battle of recovery in hopes to make another NFL roster. We aren't certain if this latest development will end his career, but we hope nothing but the best for him.
A tragic update for a player doing everything he can to continue his dream of playing in the NFL.
