The Buffalo Bills entered the 2024 season having traded away their star wide receiver in Stefon Diggs, let their second receiver, Gabe Davis, walk in free agency, parted ways with their longtime safety duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, released their starting center Mitch Morse, and yet somehow are playing better.

This team has gelled beautifully, the defense is playing great, Josh Allen is playing a new and improved brand of football, the team is 10-2, has won seven games in a row, has scored 30+ points in six straight games, and has already clinched the AFC East for a fifth-straight season… and yet nobody is giving any love to head coach Sean McDermott

Currently, McDermott isn't in the top-5 for best odds to win 2024 Coach of the Year, which seems ridiculous for all the reasons listed above.

What McDermott has done with this team, particularly in bringing everyone together and organizing them to play great football despite losing key players that have been in Buffalo for years, is incredible.

Here's a clip of Emmanuel Acho from his show "Speak" on FS1 back in May, where the expectations for this Bills team were low.

This isn't to bash Acho. The truth of the matter is that I shared a similar sentiment. It felt like the Bills of 2024 were setting themselves up to develop young talent, to see those players step forward, to shed heavy contracts, and to enter 2025 with the resources to push their chips back in to the middle of the table.

Genuinely, I entered this season with major concerns about the secondary, particularly the safeties, the offensive line, and how an offense that had only one wide receiver on the roster that had ever caught a pass from Josh Allen before was going to operate.

McDermott, Allen, and everyone else on the team clearly had different plans.

Now, Buffalo looks like one of the best teams in the entire NFL, especially after handing the Chiefs their first and (somehow) only first loss of the season. McDermott deserves a ton of credit for taking what looked like a retooling roster and getting them to play at what looks like a championship level.
