Buffalo Bills give former division rival wide receiver workout in considering bringing him out of retirement

We all know the wide receiver position is one that has received a world of attention in the Buffalo Bills world this offseason. It was a position of need even before the Stefon Diggs trade, which then catapulted it into a glaring, urgent must-have.
For Brandon Beane and the Bills front office, even after using their first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft (after trading back, that is) on wide receiver Keon Coleman, they're still tinkering around with available options to fill out the depth chart.
Buffalo brings in wide receiver Corey Davis for a workout
Buffalo reportedly brought in Corey Davis, the former Tennessee Titan first round pick turned New York Jets receiver, in for a workout. Davis, who took a year away from the game, is attempting to make a comeback.
Davis was the 5th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft as a big-body wide receiver out of Western Michigan, in what was supposed to be a dominant outside receiver for Titans then-quarterback Marcus Mariota. Things didn't quite get off the ground in Tennessee, as his best season with the Titans came in year four with 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns. Respectable, but not the elite production they were hoping for.
With the Jets, his time was marred with injuries and a rotating door at quarterback. It's understandable why he would take some time away from the game, but at 29 years old, it's fair to think he still has enough left in the tank to be a depth contributor for an NFL squad.
Corey Davis is a prototypical outside wide receiver
It also makes a ton of sense why Buffalo would bring him in. Veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was signed this offseason to be a stretch deep threat on the outside of the offense, has not lived up to the billing throughout training camp. The coaches are saying all the right things about them believing in him, and his off-field report with Josh Allen is well documented, but the continuous drops while being outperformed by former undrafted free agent Tyrell Shavers, has Valdez-Scantling potentially on the outside looking in.
Add in the fact that the Bills just put Chase Claypool on Injured Reserve, ending his season, and bringing in Davis, a 6'3" 209 lbs wide receiver, for a look is completely reasonable. At this point, nothing has been mentioned that indicates a signing is imminent, but we'll keep an eye on it.
