We know Buffalo Bills running back James Cook had a monster performance on Thursday Night Football as the Bills squished the fish 31-10, putting up 78 rushing yards for two touchdowns on the ground while reeling in a 17 yard receiving touchdown as well.
Six days after the fact, James Cook has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Through two weeks of the NFL season, the Buffalo Bills have had a Defensive Player of the Week in Greg Rousseau, and now add an Offensive Player of the Week to cap off a 2-0 record. Buffalo is red hot to start the season.
The highlight of Cook's performance was a 49-yard touchdown run that saw Cook turn on the afterburners, reaching just shy of 21 miles per hour while leaving the defense in his dust.
"We called duo on our first first play there in the second quarter, and [James] took it, what was it 40, 50 yards? I handed it off and put my hands up. I knew he was gonna be in," quarterback Josh Allen said after the game regarding James. "He's been begging to get some goal line runs, I'm tired of stealing all those down there, and he's tired of it. So I'm so proud of him. He just continues to work hard and he's gotten better every single year. And shout out to our O-line, they played a heck of a game."
Cook will be a featured part of the plan from offensive coordinator Joe Brady in his new-look "everybody eats" offense. With his explosiveness as a pass catcher and a runner, playing behind an offensive line that's blocking well, and in a scheme where defenses can never take their eyes off Allen, this likely won't be the last big performance out of the running back this year.
