The NFL All-Pro teams have been announced, and Bills' quarterback Josh Allen wasn't named to the first team. Instead, it was Ravens' Lamar Jackson, continuing to add fuel to the MVP debate between the two.
There are some significant trends that point to the fact that Allen now has an uphill battle to win his first career MVP, no matter how I personally feel about the matter.
The quarterback named to the first team All-Pro almost always wins the MVP vote. Considering it's the same group of voters, it makes sense that their opinions would mirror in both votes.
The last time a quarterback won MVP without being named to the All-Pro first team was Steve McNair in 2003.
If Allen doesn't win MVP, it would be a tremendous shame.
Last year, raw stats apparently didn't matter. If that was the case, Allen would have won the award handily. He led the league in total touchdowns and total yards, but people knocked him for his turnovers and gave the award to Jackson anyways.
This year, despite losing his top wide receiver from last season and unequivocally doing more with less, the nod is going to Jackson for solely having better counting stats, despite Allen having less total turnovers and beating the No. 1 seed in both conferences.
The Ravens had nine pro bowlers and four all-pros, with Buffalo having two pro bowlers and only Allen as a second-team all-pro. You simply can't tell me that Allen isn't more valuable to his team than Jackson is to his.
None of this is to knock Jackson down. There are fans of both franchises resulting to tearing down the other to make their case, which I won't do. We have the privilege of seeing two incredible talents playing at unbelievable levels this season in what is probably the most hotly-contests MVP race in recent memory. Both are playing great football, with a chance that the two quarterbacks will face off in the Divisional Round if both teams win on Wild Card Weekend.
