The Buffalo Bills cut ties with WR Tavon Austin on Wednesday. Austin, who was signed to the practice squad in August, never saw action in a regular season game with Buffalo.
Now a free agent, Austin will be looking to sign with his sixth different team since the beginning of the 2019 season.
Drafted by the St. Louis Rams with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Austin was one of the league’s most exciting players with the ball in his hands. Not only was he a weapon in the passing game, but he made a name for himself in the return game as well.
At 32 years old it remains to be seen if Austin has anything left in his tank. He has just 50 receptions since 2018, but he managed to haul in 24 catches last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Bills have a talented group of wide receivers which made it difficult for Austin to climb the depth chart. Perhaps teams lacking playmakers out wide will take a shot on the former first-rounder.
