The last game of the regular season for the Buffalo Bills is going to see plenty of starters get some rest. With their playoff position already locked in, there's no reason to risk it.
Head coach Sean McDermott has made it clear that some starters will be playing, namely safeties Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp, to continue to get their communication down and the rust knocked off before the playoffs. Hamlin, who has been out due to injury, could absolutely use the live reps to get back up to game speed.
On offense, a key rookie looks ready to get some run. With some roster decision that have been made, it's clear that rookie Ray Davis is set to get another opportunity to carry the load.
The Bills had two roster elevations that they could make, and they elected to bring up OL Will Clapp and Defensive End Casey Toohill. In doing so, they didn't bring up an extra running back, with starter James Cook likely not going to get much run.
Davis would be the next man up. He has played a valuable role in the Bills offense this year, acting as the second option to Cook. He provides valuable depth and gives Cook the opportunity to catch his breath. Earlier in the season, with Cook out due to injury, David showed that he has the goods to carry the load if he's needed. Against the Jets back in October, Davis took 20 carries for 97 yards, while catching all three of his targets for an additional 55 yards.
He was a terrific draft selection. Sunday should give Davis more opportunities to log some valuable carries and ramp up his momentum before the team heads into the playoffs.
