Coming out of their bye week, the hope was that the Buffalo Bills would be at, or near, full strength for their Sunday Night Football matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, but it looks like they're not quite there yet.
Head coach Sean McDermott ruled out tight end Dalton Kincaid with the shoulder injury that has plagued him since the game against the Colts on November 10.
Kincaid has had an up-and-down season. Many, myself included, believed that Kincaid was going to enter this season as a major breakout candidate that would push for the team lead in receptions and receiving yards. To date, Kincaid, has only 34 receptions for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
Buffalo might be without more than just Kincaid, with Keon Coleman still questionable. Amari Cooper is off the injury report and good to go, though, and the Bills are used to rotating through pass catchers this season.
In Week 12 without Coleman and Kincaid, Khalil Shakir saw a lion's share of targets, seeing 12 looks, reeling in eight of them, for 70 yards. That game also saw Curtis Samuel have his most productive game with Buffalo since joining in free agency, catching five passes for 58 yards and his first touchdown with Buffalo.
Against a talented San Francisco 49ers secondary, the injuries to the pass catchers will be a storyline to watch throughout what is now a division-clinching opportunity for the Bills. Look for Cooper to carry a bigger role on the perimeter, while Shakir continues to feast on catch-and-run opportunities and underneath routes all over the field.
Bills’ Josh Allen has plenty of things to say about the biggest obstacle he faces against the 49ers
He knows what he’s up against.
