The Athletic delivered a hard truth about the Buffalo Bills this week that fans should probably accept.

Buffalo won the AFC East in 2022 but they came up two games short of their ultimate goal — winning the Super Bowl.

The Bills' divisional-round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals will haunt them all offseason.

Buffalo, however, will deal with their nightmares and undoubtedly look to improve their roster this offseason and address their weaknesses.

One of those weaknesses, according to The Athletic, is that the Bills are too dependent on quarterback Josh Allen.

The Athletic thinks Buffalo needs to add an impact player at running back to help ease Allen's burden.

From The Athletic:

Buffalo is too Josh Allen dependent. The quarterback delivered yet another MVP-caliber season, but the load proved a bit too heavy for him to carry alone against Cincinnati in the divisional round. The Bills should’ve gotten Kareem Hunt at the trade deadline to arm Allen with a consistent run game. This offseason, Brandon Beane certainly must find a running back, another reliable receiver to pair with Stefon Diggs and additional pass-rushing help.

If the Bills are going to add a running back this offseason, they have two options:

  • Free agency (Saquon Barkley perhaps?)
  • The 2023 NFL Draft

I've never been a fan of teams giving running backs big contracts. I don't believe it's a "plug n play" position, but it's a position where you can find value in the draft without having to hand out a big contract.

Which is why I think the Bills should just draft a running back in the first round.

Specifically, they should draft Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 27 overall selection.

Gibbs is a dynamic running back who is explosive and has tremendous field vision. He's also a very capable pass-catcher out of the backfield with the ability to turn short checkdowns into touchdowns.

The former Alabama running back has the talent to be a perennial Pro-Bowler in the NFL. And he could be just what the Bills need to take some of the load off of Allen in 2023 and beyond.
