Bills have a chance to land 60-TD weapon for Josh Allen and the offense, and it’ll cost them almost nothing

The Buffalo Bills should be doing everything they can to try and bring in Brandin Cooks.

The Buffalo Bills are looking to bounce back in a big way after the Week 12 loss to the Houston Texans. It was a game where nothing went right for Buffalo, with the defense struggling in the first half and the offense not doing enough to secure the win.

Quarterback Josh Allen was beaten up badly during the game. While he had plenty of time to throw the football, the offensive line struggled in pass protection, and the reigning MVP was running for his life all game, with his weapons seemingly unable to get open in some key moments.

With some issues on offense, the team could add a 60-touchdown weapon for Allen, and it will cost them almost nothing. Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks has cleared waivers and is now a free agent who can sign with any team.

Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells named Buffalo as one of the potential landing spots for the veteran wide receiver. It all stems from the team’s inability to secure a receiver by the trade deadline, coupled with the recent decision to make receiver Keon Coleman a healthy scratch in back-to-back games.

“The Bills tried to make a big deadline splash with an offer for Jaylen Waddle, but the Miami Dolphins reportedly turned it down because they didn’t want to trade him within the division unless Buffalo would pay an even steeper price than they were asking from other teams.

“Buffalo also pursued Cook’s teammate in New Orleans, Chris Olave, to no avail. Receiver seems to have taken on an even bigger priority for the Bills after Keon Coleman was benched for Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for being late to a team meeting last week.” – Adam Wells

Cooks could give Buffalo a much-needed boost

The veteran receiver wouldn’t come in and be the team’s No. 1 option, but they wouldn’t need him to be. It’s not as though one player would come in and magically transform the offense, but this late in the season, with a low-risk, high-reward type move, Buffalo should be doing everything in its power to see what it would take to bring Cooks to Western New York.

Cooks appeared in 10 games for the Saints, starting three, and totaled 19 receptions for 165 yards and no touchdowns in 2025.

Taking a look at his career totals, he’s been a difference-maker on offense, recording nearly 10,000 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns. That kind of playmaking ability would be perfect when paired with Allen and the offense. Just please, if he were to arrive in Buffalo, don’t throw him bubble screens all game or passes behind the line of scrimmage.

Buffalo could desperately use some more firepower on offense, and Cooks could be exactly what the team needs at this point in the season. All eyes will be on One Bills Drive and how they navigate the situation.

The Bills don’t need Cooks to be a star; they just need someone who can help Allen breathe. With the offense seemingly stuck in neutral and the margin of error shrinking with each passing day, adding a reliable veteran might be the difference between a late-season surge and an early offseason.
