Patrick Mahomes was not happy after the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. And one camera captured a moment following the game where Mahomes went over to Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
But instead of just simple saying good game, he continued to rant about one controversial call that potentially played a large part in the Chiefs loss.
However, after having a day to reflect, Mahomes issued an apology to Allen.
"More than anything, I regret the way I acted towards Josh after the game because he had nothing to do with it," Mahomes said during an interview with 610Sports. "I was still hot and emotional, but you can't do that, man."
Following the game, Mahomes' words to Allen didn't have any hidden meaning. He was upset about the call and wanted everyone to hear it.
"Oddest f***ing call I’ve ever seen," Mahomes said while hugging Allen. "Offensive offsides on that play, man. F***ing terrible.”
Mahomes was upset after the officials called back an impressive play by the Chiefs that would have resulted in a potential game-winning touchdown.
The quarterback located Travis Kelce who took the ball past the 30, but was caught between a few Bills defenders. He looked back and with quick thinking, sent the ball to Kadarius Toney who took it into the end zone.
Yet despite the impressive play, it got called back after the officials ruled that receiver Toney was offsides.
After that, the Chiefs final three attempts were unsuccessful and they were then forced to turned the ball over on downs.
Mahomes yelled on the sideline all throughout the end of the game. He had to be held back by his teammates at one point and also threw his helmet onto the ground in frustration.
He continued to rant during his postgame press conference.
"Another game, we're talking about the refs. It's not what we want for the NFL or for football." Mahomes said.
However on Monday, Mahomes stepped up and admitted to his mistakes, making sure that everyone knew he was sorry for how he acted towards his friend and fellow quarterback.
"Obviously you don't want to ever react that way. I mean, I care man. I love it. I love this game. I love my teammates, and I want to go out there and put everything on the line to win. Obviously can't do that. You can't be that way towards officials or really anybody in life. So probably regret acting like that," Mahomes said. "Not a great example for kids watching the game, so I was more upset about that than I was about me on the sidelines."
