Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman was a healthy scratch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11 due to disciplinary issues stemming from the second-year receiver missing a team meeting. This is now the third time in his short career that Coleman has missed time due to some off-the-field issues.

Much like last week, Cover One reported that Coleman will once again be a healthy scratch for the Week 12 matchup against the Houston Texans. It’s becoming an issue for Coleman, who just can’t find the field. Even when he is on it, he’s left much to be desired in the passing game.

Coleman was benched during a portion of the New England Patriots game. In the 2024 season, he was benched for a portion of the contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Being on time to meetings is a non-negotiable and something that the team is taking very seriously.

It’s unclear if there’s any more to Coleman’s benching outside of his off-the-field issues, but one thing is clear: he needs to quickly turn things around. It’s a concerning issue that’s going to affect the offense in the game against Houston, and potentially more games throughout the rest of the season.

Coleman hasn’t been playing well in 2025

All the talk of training camp and the offseason was about how Coleman was going to take that important jump in the offense in his second year. Coleman even earned some high praise from offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, who claimed that the league better get ready.

Coleman started off his 2025 campaign with an electric performance against the Ravens that saw him total over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. However, he’s left much to be desired since the Week 1 performance. Through 11 weeks of the NFL season, Coleman has only 32 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

What makes his benching and the timing of it even worse is that Coleman actually looked decent against the Miami Dolphins. He was not perfect and was lackadaisical on some of his routes, but found the end zone after high-pointing the ball and beating his defender, something the team was hoping to see more from him as the season progresses.

Quarterback Josh Allen and several teammates have discussed at great length Coleman’s benching and how he knows he needs to be better moving forward. Coleman himself shared the same sentiment, noting that he is aware of what needs to change and it’s on him to correct it.

At this point, it’s on Coleman to match his words with action. Buffalo’s margin for error, especially considering all the injuries, is shrinking. Another slip on or off the field will only make his path back into the rotation that much harder. Especially with a player like Gabe Davis waiting in the wings and rising star Tyrell Shavers putting on a show against the Buccaneers.

For now, it’s looking like another week without Coleman.
