Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy was fired up over the New England Patriots’ win over the Buffalo Bills. Immediately after the game, Portnoy went viral for his thrashing of the Buffalo Bills organization, and claimed the Patriots to be the king of the AFC East.

The Bills should just wrap it all up now, as Portnoy claims that the window has closed for the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen.

“It’s a new day. We all just saw the Bills have run this division, and I like Josh Allen, I like him,” Portnoy said. “You know what they’ve got to show for the last decade? Bupkis. Yeah, they won the East, but they’ve won nothing. We’ve waited and we’ve rebuilt, and what we saw tonight, Drake Maye outplayed Josh Allen. Both teams made mistakes.

“Drake Maye was the better quarterback, the best player on the field,” Portnoy added. “The Bills, who’ve had it for a decade and have nothing, but now the beast, the dynasty, has been rebirthed. I said before the game, watch out, it’s the first time in 10 years, I think we can go in and beat this team, I think we’re a real team. The Bills, you didn’t capitalize, you’re little brother, I still have the six rings, you have zero.

“You had your chance, you blew it,” Portnoy continued. “Now the best quarterback in the division may be back in New England. We just went into your house, kicked your brains in. This team should be 4-1 if Stevenson didn’t fumble nine times. The dynasty is back on, the Bills had their chance, they blew it [ . . . ] this team is back, Drake Maye is a superstar.”

Maye very well could be ascending to a superstar in the league, but the reigning MVP Josh Allen is still the No. 1 quarterback in football.

The Bills still lead the AFC East, despite Portnoy’s passionate rant

You’d think, after taking a brief look at the standings in the morning, that the Bills would be at the bottom of the division based on what Portnoy was claiming. However, despite the loss, Buffalo controls their own destiny and remains atop the AFC East.

If we’re playing these mental gymnastics, as Portnoy did with the Stevenson comment, if Allen and the Bills just scored 50 points in every game, they would be undefeated. Empty words with empty meanings, and a bizarre reaction to the Bills’ loss. Outside of just the AFC East, the current odds-on favorite to win the Super Bowl is none other than the Buffalo Bills. While quarterback Drake Maye did look dominant in the victory, it’s a bit much to say he was the best football player on the field.

Allen put on his Superman cape when needed and led the team in rushing yards on top of throwing for 253 yards and two touchdowns.

New England may have squeaked out a victory that Buffalo gift-wrapped for them on a silver platter, but by no means should the takeaway from this game be that the Bills are finished, and it’s now the Patriots’ dynasty running roughshod over the division once again.

After a night to think on it, Portnoy came around and apologized to the people of Buffalo, while once again throwing shade at the organization.

“Listen, I was super excited about that win; there’s no need to pile on the good people of Buffalo,” Portnoy said. “I like the good people of Buffalo; everyone knows that, and I can’t imagine what it would be like to be a Buffalo Bills fan right now watching that game, knowing your window has closed again, right under your head.”

That’s when Portnoy made sure to get another dig in on the fan base, pointing to the four straight Super Bowls that the Bills lost in the early 1990s, not exactly the type of apology that will resonate with fans.

“Four falls of Buffalo all over again, you’ve got this great team and this quarterback, you’ve been so close and you just haven’t gotten it done. Now you’ve got to look at us, now you gotta look at a revamped Patriots team that knows what it is to win Super Bowls, a great young quarterback that outplayed your guy, a great coach Vrabel, and knowing your time is over, I shouldn’t have rubbed that in. I like the good people of Buffalo, little brother. I am sorry, I was excited.”

At the end of the day, Portnoy’s rant may have made headlines, but the standings tell the real story. Buffalo’s window isn’t closed, it’s wide open, and as long as Josh Allen is under center, the Bills are never out of the fight. Portnoy can keep crowning his “new dynasty,” but until New England starts stacking wins like Buffalo has the last few years, it’s just noise from the cheap seats.
