The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins are set for action in a divisional showdown on Thursday Night Football. Buffalo is undefeated after a thrilling comeback victory in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens and a defensive showing against the New York Jets.

Ahead of the matchup, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is turning heads with his comments about Bills QB Josh Allen. He has the utmost respect for the Bills’ signal-caller, all while admitting that he can’t do what Allen can on the football field.

“He’s top tier,” Tagovailoa said. “If it’s not with his arms, it’s with his legs; that dude can do nearly anything he wants. Definitely a different skill set for me.”

Tagovailoa was gushing about Allen’s abilities, pointing out that what Allen can do on the football field is unlike anything he’s seen, even from his own skill set.

“I can’t do half of what he does when it comes to running the ball, and any of that,” Tagovailoa said.
“And with how he can just chuck a ball down the field with how far and the arm strength he has, he’s supreme when it comes to that. It’s going to be fun, get to see him, get to play him again, we’ll see.”

Tua has had a front-row seat to Josh Allen’s greatness

Allen has a history of big games against the Dolphins throughout his career, not too different from the days when Tom Brady ran roughshod over the Bills.

According to the Buffalo Bills, Allen, in 15 career games against Miami, has 4,089 yards and 45 total touchdowns. When Allen takes on Miami, he goes to an entirely different level of his game. The divisional rivalry has been rather one-sided since Allen joined the Bills, and something the team and the quarterback will hope to continue in their ‘Thursday Night Football’ matchup.

The Miami Dolphins are struggling in the early stages of the 2025 season

For Miami, its season has not begun on the right foot as the team is winless through two games. Kyle Crabbs, Miami Dolphins beat reporter for A to Z Sports, highlighted one area in specific that the Dolphins are among the league’s worst: Third- and fourth-down conversion rates.

“Miami ranks T-31st in the NFL in third-down defense through the second Sunday of the 2025 season — it’s allowing 51.9% of its third downs on defense to be converted for a fresh set of downs. That’s tied with Dallas, with only Houston sporting a worse mark.

“When Miami does force opponents into fourth downs, it hasn’t mattered. Miami has not generated a single stop on fourth down through two games — the Patriots and Colts went four for four, plus a fresh set of downs for running into the punter in Week 1.

“As a result of all of those fresh sets of downs, Miami’s defense, through two games, is averaging more than 36 minutes of game clock on the field. That’s 36 minutes and 14 seconds on average, which is last in the NFL. Among franchises that have played two games thus far, no other team is within a minute and a half of Miami’s lopsided mark.” – A to Z Sports Miami Dolphins writer, Kyle Crabbs

Bills battling injuries ahead of Week 3 showdown on Thursday Night Football

While Miami is looking for its first win and seems hungrier than ever, Buffalo is a little banged up heading into the contest. Head coach Sean McDermott provided a cryptic update on Matt Milano’s availability ahead of the contest, with Ed Oliver looking like he’ll need some more time while recovering from an ankle injury.

Nevertheless, once again, Buffalo will look to deploy their next man up approach and try to sour the Dolphins’ season even more. With a victory, Buffalo could throw Miami into a full-on rebuild and continue their reign atop the AFC East in the early stages of the 2025 regular season.
