Bills get an early Christmas gift that puts the league on notice ahead of a pivotal stretch of the regular season
It’s a great day to be a fan of the Buffalo Bills.
The Buffalo Bills got some great news without playing even a single snap. On Monday, with the loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills clinched a playoff berth. For the seventh straight season, the Bills are going to the dance.
Heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns, it was as easy as Buffalo winning and either the Houston Texans or Indianapolis Colts losing. The Colts were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers on “Monday Night Football,” giving Buffalo a huge early Christmas present.
The ultimate goal is to raise the Lombardi Trophy. I’m sure most fans wouldn’t be happy with just another appearance. However, thinking back to the drought days, we used to pray for times like this.
Buffalo has been exceptional since McDermott took over
Probably going to catch a bunch of heat from this, but what head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane have done since arriving in Buffalo has allowed the team to be competitive and reach the playoffs nearly every year. Yes, Beane has some issues with building a roster and overpaying some players, but overall, he has been crucial to the team’s success.
Making the postseason seven straight times is no easy feat, and the pair deserve their flowers for what they’ve been able to accomplish during their tenure in Buffalo.
It’s the longest active playoff streak in the NFL. Of course, while McDermott and Beane have done their part, it’s the work that quarterback Josh Allen has done in the regular season that has allowed the team to be so successful and clinch multiple playoff berths.
This playoff run is going to be much different than in years past, especially for Allen and company. There’s no Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes, there’s no Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow, and it’s looking like there will be no Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson. If there was ever a year for Buffalo to run the table, the time is now; the window is wide open.
The hard part is over; now it’s about finishing the job. With the AFC wide open and a roster built to win now, the opportunity in front of Buffalo doesn’t get much clearer than this.
