The Buffalo Bills have plenty of team needs entering the draft, one of which is linebacker.

Well, Bills Mafia, we may have found the Combine darling for Buffalo. Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriquez went viral for his comments about the team, and I will now be pounding the table for Buffalo to select him in the upcoming draft. It’s hard not to like this dude. To add some bonus points to his draft stock, his mustache is next-level elite.

Rodriguez was asked about who he models his game after, and his response was nothing short of incredible. He knows exactly what he’s doing with a response like this, and new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard has to be thrilled with his response.

“I think the two in Buffalo, I think Terrel Bernard [ . . . ], it’s easy to watch him. But then him and Matt Milano, I think they do things really well,” Rodriguez said. “Being similar size than I am, I think it makes it easy to watch them and play football the way they do and to play the right way.”

Jacob Rodriguez to Buffalo looks enticing after linebackers’ comments at the Combine

With Leonhard coming into town, there’s going to be a shift from a 4-3 system to a 3-4 scheme. Rodriguez was asked about his versatility as a linebacker and whether or not he’d be able to adapt to the new defensive scheme. Once again, Rodriguez nailed it with his response.

“Yeah, I mean, I think I can play any position they need me to play. I can play sam out in space, I can play mike, I can be the green dot, and I can play the will,” Rodriguez said. “I think I can play any position that they bring up to me, and I think I’m very much capable of doing anything. It’d be nice to see how they transition. I think they’re both phenomenal football players, so it’s going to be great to see how they do this year.”

The NFL Combine is one of the most fun times of the year. With the football season being over, it feels like it’s back for just a short time, with players doing drills, speaking to the media, and watching their draft stock either rise or fall over the course of a few days.

We get comments from GMs and head coaches, along with the prospects themselves. There’s always one or two phenomenal sound bites from these young players looking to make a difference.

Ryan Roberts weighs in on Rodriguez’s abilities on the field

Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports opened up on Rodriguez’s journey and what he can bring to the table. Needless to say, Bills Mafia might be falling in more love with the player.

“Rodriguez is one of the coolest stories in the 2026 NFL Draft class, beginning his career as a quarterback with the Virginia Cavaliers. You can see that background with how Rodriguez plays, excelling with his eyes and feel for navigating blocking schemes in front of him. He has an uncommon understanding for where to be on the football field and creating big plays, evident by his countless forced fumbles in 2026. While Rodriguez isn’t the biggest or best athlete of all time, his football IQ allows him to overcompensate for that lack of exciting traits. Even if Rodriguez doesn’t end up developing into a starter, he has a very appealing floor as a depth player and core special teamer. The sweet spot seems to be somewhere late on Day Two (rounds 2-3). Rodriguez strikes me as a player who will find a role for a long stretch on the NFL level.” – Ryan Roberts

And that’s exactly why Rodriguez makes so much sense for Buffalo.

The Bills don’t need just bodies at linebacker; they need instinctive, high-IQ football players who can adjust on the fly in a brand-new defensive system. With Leonhard installing a 3-4 scheme, versatility and football intelligence are going to matter more than ever, and Rodriguez checks both boxes.

He studies Bernard and Milano, he understands leverage, and he embraces special teams. He’s comfortable wearing the green dot, and maybe most importantly, he wants to be in Buffalo.

The mustache is a big bonus.

If Beane is looking for a tone-setter who fits the culture, fits the scheme, and fits the timeline of this roster, Rodriguez might be one of the easiest calls off the board if he’s there on Day Two. Bills Mafia already seems sold. Now it’s just a matter of whether Buffalo is.
