The Buffalo Bills will be without defensive tackle Ed Oliver indefinitely. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed the news while speaking to the media on Monday.

“Ed Oliver has a torn bicep and will get surgery and will be out indefinitely,” McDermott said. “That’s what I know on it.”

Oliver was injured during the first half of the team’s 40-9 victory over the Carolina Panthers and was immediately ruled out. It was first feared, then confirmed, that Oliver tore his biceps, forcing him to get surgery. McDermott didn’t provide a window for when Oliver could return, making the news that much worse.

However, Oliver quickly took to Instagram and posted an exciting update, giving the Bills Mafia something to cheer about. According to Oliver, if the Buffalo Bills make the Super Bowl, he’ll be back to play in the contest. It hasn’t been verified, but Oliver is a pretty reliable source.

Bills are razor-thin at defensive tackle

Currently, the team only has Deone Walker and Larry Ogunjobi as healthy defensive tackles. DaQuan Jones is still dealing with an injury, but the team does have a few options on its practice squad with Zion Logue and Jordan Phillips. Expect a call-up to the active roster, as McDermott said he and general manager Brandon Beane would discuss a plan for Oliver’s absence.

Oliver was fired up over the injury after dominating through nearly two and a half games.

“Sack leader through eight weeks for dt was four and a half. I had three sacks with only playing two and a half games Bruhh,” Oliver wrote. “That injury bug a mf.”

Oliver’s frustration is understandable after battling through injuries throughout the season. His message to fans shows he’s already locked in on recovery. If the Bills can make a deep run, No. 91 might just get his shot at redemption under the bright lights of the Super Bowl.
